  • The CAREspaces core team has undergone a 4 week training by Dr. Swarna Rajagopalan of the Prajnya Trust. This training covered legal, societal, intersectional, and institutional topics.

  • Unfortunately, we do not support the direct publication of stories, even anonymously, on our platforms. However, we maintain a fully confidential email account, accessible only to experienced counselors within our organization, which one can email in order to share trauma you wish to keep anonymous.

  • In order to contextualize the importance of ethics education within the arts, we have assembled a timeline detailing a series of allegations of sexual misconduct within Indian arts spaces. We believe that through education and support, this, and intersectional issues, can be mitigated.

  • We have several community engagement initiatives such as: our events, CAREleader program, and collaborations! Feel free to reach out to us at info.carespaces@gmail.com and we would be happy to find a meaningful way for you to contribute to our mission and vision!

  • We make our executive team and peer support team disclose any mutual contacts. More specifically, we have a thorough vetting process for conflicts of interest regarding CAREleaders and those seeking peer support.

Legal Inquiries

Disclaimer here.

  • Krithika Rajkumar, our Head of Legal Relations, will be reading communications directed to the legal team. Read more about here on our Leadership Team page.

  • CAREspaces' Legal Relations team does not represent survivors of misconduct in the Indian performing arts space. As a referral service organization, we are currently developing a database of attorneys and organizations with legal services that may be able to help survivors in the space. If you would like a referral or have further questions, please contact our legal relations team and we would be happy to understand your needs and match you to an appropriate legal service.

  • A licensed lawyer that practices in the area of law in which you have questions can tell you about the applicable laws that apply to your case. Looking for information online may yield inaccurate or outdated information, whereas a professional can provide current information based on the specific geographic and practice area that applies to your case. Consulting a lawyer can also ease your mind about the unknown to enable you to fully evaluate your options. Additionally, sometimes doing the work yourself can be much more expensive because then you have to hire a lawyer to fix your mistakes.

  • In general, as long as a prospective client is seeking legal advice or representation and reasonably believes the communication will be confidential, the consultation is privileged. This is so even if the prospective client never pays or hires the attorney. The attorney-client privilege is a rule that preserves the confidentiality of communications between lawyers and clients. Under that rule, attorneys may not divulge their clients’ secrets, nor may others force them to. The purpose of the privilege is to encourage clients to openly share information with their lawyers and to let lawyers provide effective representation.

  • Of course, CAREspaces is looking to continue to build out our directory of legal resources, including lawyers who are interested in being referrals. Email us at contact@teamcarespaces.org to learn how to get involved!

  • CAREspaces' Legal Relations team would be happy to help your organization. Please write an email to contact@teamcarespaces.org with the nature of your request and someone from our legal relations team will be in touch with you.

Peer Support Inquiries

  • CAREsessions are one hour peer support sessions that are conducted remotely via Google Meet. During these confidential sessions, two trained supporters (who we call CAREleaders) who are familiar with Indian arts spaces will listen to your experiences and to your story, support you through non-judgmental active listening and empathy, and refer you to different mental health or legal resources if you are seeking them. As mentioned, these sessions are confidential, and no information you share with your CAREleaders will be shared with any other party.

  • CAREleaders are peer supporters who have been trained to understand the complex and intersectional issues around misconduct faced by some members in the Indian arts community. Several of our CAREleaders come from backgrounds in the Indian performing arts, mental health advocacy, and well-being promotion. CAREleaders have also been trained in emotional support and active listening, and hope to create a supportive and non-judgmental a space for you as possible during CAREsessions. Learn more about them in our Peer Support page.

  • During a CAREsession, CAREleaders will work together with you to understand what kinds of experiences you have (and might want to share), how those experiences have affected you or are affecting you now, and understand how they can best provide support for you (whether that be immediate peer support or refer you to relevant resources). You are not required to share anything you do not feel comfortable sharing during a CAREsession --- CAREleaders strive to create a safe and non-judgmental a space as possible as they support you.

  • You can sign up for a CAREsession here! We will take into account your preferences as indicated on this form as best as we can. After you are matched to CAREleaders and before your first CAREsession, you and your CAREleaders will be sent (via email) a form to sign that details our code of conduct for both you and your CAREleaders. We do this to ensure that both you and the CAREleaders feel safe, especially given that CAREsessions can be spaces for sensitive disclosures.

  • You will have an opportunity to state your preferences on the sign up form here. Our peer team will then match you with two CAREleaders based assessing any conflicts of interest and matching availabilities. We will take into account your preferences as indicated on this form as best as we can, though exact matches may not be possible. All of our CAREleaders are well trained to provide emotional support! If any conflicts of interest arise despite our thorough match process, our CAREleaders are trained to step out of the conversation at which point we will be sure to find you the next best fit!

  • CAREleaders are well-trained to refer you to community support, legal resources, and/or mental health resources (e.g. a list of South Asian oriented mental health organizations or therapists) as you might want or require.

  • CAREsessions are entirely confidential. CAREleaders are trained and committed to ensuring your privacy before, during, and after a session. At no point will we contact or initiate the intervention of any outside resources/individuals, regardless of what is said during the session. CAREleaders and CAREspaces strive to make CAREsessions as free and safe of a space as possible.

  • Any data in the sign up form will only be read and accessed by our peer support team lead, Sachin Pendse (who does not have any conflicts of interest in the Indian performing arts space). The information will then be used ONLY to find a CAREleader match based on your request, and only your CAREleaders will have access to your specific answers.

Please note that the email and name you provide will not be used for any promotional purposes, whatsoever.

  • You can contact peers.carespaces@gmail.com! This email is specific to peer support related questions. For more broad questions, you can email contact@teamcarespaces.org.

  • You can visit our Peer Support Page and social media platforms to stay tuned to updates regarding recruitment cycles.
